Woman marries herself!

36-year-old single mother Nadine Schweigert stood in front of 40 family members and friends as she took part in a ‘commitment ceremony,’ swapping rings with her ‘inner groom.’

Schweigert, from Fargo, North Dakota, even read vows at the wedding, promising that:

“I, Nadine, promise to enjoy inhabiting my own life and to relish a lifelong love affair with my beautiful self.”

News of her solo wedding got passed around, and within days Schweigert found herself speaking to Anderson Cooper about her motives for marrying herself. She told the chat show host:

“I started discovering that that love I need? It’s in here [gesturing to her chest]. No-one else can give it to me. [...] To be married to myself means I have to invest in this relationship.”

I was pretty gobsmacked when I saw the thread title.  It is a little weird to say the least!

Very strange. It's one thing to be self confident and love who you are but it's another to have a ceremony to honor a commitment that should go without saying.

Not so sure you need a ceremony to honor a commitment to yourself. We should learn to love an appreciate ourselves and that's a long process but this is too much I think. I understand her motives but it's very strange, indeed.

What astounds me is that she got 40, count 'em, 40 people to come to the ceremony. Wonder if they brought wedding gifts?

Forever alone! Lol. Being in love with yourself is a good thing but going beyond the limit isn't.

A person cant be self efficient unless they are one with themselves and it does not take a one-person marriage for that. Seems like someone went to the extreme for some attention, lol.

That's weird to say the least, you don't need a ceremony to celebrate being single.

Secondly, I don't think she is feeling that good with herself since she seems to be craving attention, hence the ceremony.

Perhaps Nadine will one day seek a divorce.  That should be quite an interesting story.

People do strangest of things when they dont find a soulmate. Maybe Im wrong but i consider this to be more an act derived from desperation than a serious decision.

I think it was done to get a rise out of the general public and it worked! She had her 15 minutes of fame and with 40 friends and family in attendance i smell a prank at work!
