  • Hiya LCB'ers

Having to work is a necessary evil. We all have to earn the almighty dollar the best way we can. The boss can either make us love our job our hate our job.

There are bosses that are the nightmare from hell. Always breathing down the workers neck or never satisfied. Or the boss who gives you the freedom to do your job and does not bother you and praises you for a job well done.

Then again there is the boss who steps way out of line with sexual harassment. When i was just out of high school i took on a part time job with an insurance company. It was a very small office with just him and now me.

He wanted me to learn how to take blood pressure for potential insurance customers. He would have me come into his office for the first two days and take his blood pressure. Now i was very young and naive at the time but something didn't seem quite right.

He would lay his arm between my legs and tell me to take his blood pressure several times. Now at first i thought ok, maybe this is in my head and im over reacting but he is alittle bit too close for comfort to ....um er...well you know.

The very next day he calls me in his office again to "practice" I am hoping that he does not place his arm in my lap again and that it was a fluke! Sure enough he places his arm in my lap and proceeds to tell me to take his blood pressure.

Here i am in his office with not a soul around! I become very nervous as his hand ever so slightly seems to creep up my lap. Again i am thinking to myself is this for real or am i paranoid.

After our "blood pressure" session it was time for lunch. I left for lunch and never came back! I have learned to never doubt my first instinct.

Have you had bad experiences or good ones with your boss?

  • When I was 20, I went to work for the sleeziest most awful guy, a real sheep in wolves clothing.  It's too long to go into details- but we were working in a satellite office just the two of us, he was 45 and single, and his dad owned the company and worked with the majority of employees at homebase down the road.  He would give me tasks and then leave and come back.  After a few days it was clear he was odd, and after a month it was downright eery.  Needless to say, I got a phone call from an anonymous employee telling me that I should know a. the phones were bugged, b. there are hidden cameras in the office- and not for security purposes, c. he has a habit of 'dating' his employees, d. he is an alcoholic womanizer and he didn't hire me for my typing skills.  I didn't really listen at first, even though I should have because the call came to my private cell and not at work.

Pretty soon, he made his move driving back from a company meeting.  I brushed it off as nothing.  Next thing I know, he's acting weird, mean, hateful, he comes in drunk one day.  I didn't get it- then realized a guy I was dating had stopped by the day before and we had discussed our plans for the night.  I quit when he started dropping hints like 'were you out late last night, you look tired'- I did not look tired, but I was out late.  Only 1 way for him to know that.  Then he said an obvious thing to let me wonder how he knew it, about a certain tree I had in my apartment.  Noone would know I had that tree unless they had been IN my apartment.  I did a similar as you, left for evening, and never went back.  He called me and left a million messages on my machine.  It was pretty creepy.

  • Hi Tood,

Thanks so much for sharing your personal story. That is so scary. You had to be looking over your shoulder all the time for awhile. Going into your apartment alone had to be terrifying.

I am glad you left the job and more glad you are alright!

  • Thanks Lips, I wish I hadn't been so young and naive, I would have known better than the take the job.  But, I haven't made that mistake since so lesson learned.
