It was back in the late 70's (showing my age now)  and my husband at the time's Aunty and Uncle came to our house for Christmas along with all my husband's family.

We were sharing the presents and this Aunty handed me a gift and said this is especially for you.

It was a plastic coat hanger.

My husband got £20 from her which was a lot of money in those days.  Can you imagine how embarrassed I was...in fact I'm blushing as I write this.  I thanked her like it was the best gift anyone could ever receive and she never knew how upset I was.

I know we should all be grateful for everything we receive as a gift and its always "the thought" that counts but it struck me that she had forgotten me and couldn't think of anything else so wrapped up the hanger.  I think I would have preferred it if she had just given me a christmas card.

What was the worst or most useless Christmas pressie you ever got?

I am going back when I was married to my second hubby and have to set this up for you, keep in ind I am telling this story to my "MOHER", (acting like I'm talking to her, okay) Mom, your not going to believe this but there was this kinda big box that said "open me last" it look like it was pots-n-pans and I keep saying to myself, so help me god if these are pot-n-pans I'm going to kill hem, who would ever give pots-n-pans to someone for Xmas? Well, the big box turned into an littler box and so on and so on, yes he playd a joke on me and there was a beautiful diamond necklace and earrings to match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's not over, my Mother wasn't saying anything and I didn't understand why? Well it was time for me to open my BIG BOXED present form who nother than my MOTHER, yep, I got POTS-N-PANS.......I wanted to DIE!

            Oh Blue: What a story!!!

It reminded me of a time I recieved a gift from my sister.

It was a single towel. Cheap in quality, and didn't match a thing I already had.

It was a gift that took no thought or time, and I will never forget it.

When I shop, ecspecially for family, I really try to put a effort into who they are and what they might like. Obviously, not all family is the same way.

Pots and pans - chain the little woman to the stove.  I really dislike "kitchen" gifts too.

omg Pam - a single towel.  Thats awful and from your sister too.  You must have been really hurt.

Oh and mamrone, 2 pounds of coffee.  Whatever were these friends thinking.

13- I had to take out the bad language.  Sorry.  But I truly understand how hurtful that must have been.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!  You guys are crackin me UP!!!  A hanger, one towel an I O U.    I can't think of any one particular item, but my family (40+ people) gather at my Moms for our Christmas celebration, we all bring a gift.  THE WORST has to be re-gifting!!!!!!  It seems every year there are about 2-3 from the year before.  I wonder if they just forget where the gift came from.  I KNOW WHEN I RE-GIFT, it is with the other side of my family!!!!! HEHE

My ex-boss (extremely wealthy elderly lady) gave me a used set of napkin rings.  At that time I was making 8 dollars an hour.  What was I going to do with napkin rings?

I know they were used because I saw them on her table!

She was also the queen of regifting.  Each year at the company christmas party white elephant exchange she would bring a gift she had received from one of us the prior year.  Talk about cheap.  Ugh...

lmao Shelli.  It helps to have a good memory thats for sure.

Deffo cheap Amy - I don't know anyone who uses napkin rings except maybe the odd posh restaurant.  Used as well - its just awful.

lol...my bro in law and I used to give eachother the same Barry Manilow album (vinyl) each year.  He'd give it to me one year and I'd give it back to him the next.  Secretly I like Barry Manilow but wasn't going to admit it to him at that time!

                  Hiya Members,

Yes, i know its the thought that counts. But we all have gotten a gift and thought to ourselves....."are you kidding"!!!!

The worst present i ever received was an iron. Oh not just any iron. The box was yellowed it was so old. I really think the iron was in her attic since 1972!!! When i opened it and saw the yellowed box i was actually embarrassed for her. I graciously smiled and said my thanks.

In my mind i am thinking.........does she not know that i can tell this is from 1972??? Hey, maybe its an antique and i am sitting on a gold mine......lmaooooo!!

What is the worst present you ever got?
