  • Here is my personal review of Atlantic City -

Harrah's Casino - Pros: If you are a Video Poker player they have one of the best sections in Atlantic City. The Slots are up to the minute with new releases. The buffet is excellent with crab legs and prime rib served every night of the week. The pool is an indoor atrium so its open all year round. The sun's UV rays are blocked so you can't get a tan but they do have a roof top sun deck. It's located somewhat by itself away from the main boardwalk of Casinos.

Cons: The washrooms are a hike and none are available on the Casino floor which i found strange. There is live bands every night and they can get super load. Located next to the table games you can hardly hear a thing over the loud music which in my opinion was not all that great. I was a bit disappointed in the pit bosses at the tables here. If you won any kind of decent money they hovered over you with a strong glare trying to intimidate you to leave the table.

Revel Casino -  Pros: This was my favorite Casino. Loved the ambiance, the lighting in the casino was soft and easy on your eyes. The music was fantastic here. They mixed it up with oldies and today's music and couldn't help but bop in my seat to nearly every tune. The Casino floor was nicely laid out in sections and easy to find what you were looking for. The staff here was by far the friendliest and made was feel very welcomed. There is an indoor heated pool for the winter months and an outdoor pool for the summer.

Cons: It is at the farthest point of the boardwalk and can be quite a jaunt to walk there.

Taj Mahal - Pros: This was absolutely one of the most beautiful Casinos in Atlantic City. The huge statues on the outside and the magnificent chandeliers on the inside were a sight were seeing. They have the famous White House Subs here that has the best subs in all of Atlantic City.  Great entertainment, top entertaining here including lots of contestant auditions for TV shows

Cons: The layout of the Casino floor was horrible. There were no sections so finding your way around was not easy. The Video Poker selection was extremely limited and the worst i have ever seen with a few machines here and there scatted throughout.

Golden Nugget - Pros: Located across from Harrah's Casino this was a jumping place that had a large crowd. There was a huge selection of Slots and Video Poker machines. The outdoor pool located on the 6th floor has an awesome skyline of Atlantic City.

Cons: Housekeeping did a poor job on keeping the casino clean. There was empty glasses and bottles next to the machines, overflowing ash trays, and sticky machine that needed to desperately be wiped down. Although a stones throw from Harrah's Casino you still needed to take a Jitney to get there because it was divided by a highway. Couldn't get a players card because the rewards center was closed huh??

Tropicana Casino - Pros: This is party central for late night fun in the clubs. The Beach Pool & Parrot Bar was absolutely beautiful! If you are in for laughs this is the place to go at the Comedy Shop with top comedians. Great place if you plan on bringing your kids with Fun station offering arcade games.

Cons: I found this Casino to be from one extreme to the other. During the day there was a lot of kids, at night it was buzzing with nightlife and primarily a younger crowd so probably not the best choice for older couples.

Resort Casino - Loved the theme inside this Casino with a very beach resort like feel. As soon as you walk in there is a replica of a sandy beach and beach chairs like you are on a tropical retreat! Got to check out Jimmy Bufftet's Margaritaville and have a margarita or three like we did! Service was excellent on the Casino floor with servers regularly asking if you wanted a drink. Huge variety of penny and nickel Slots.

Cons: The buffet was reasonably priced but as they say you get what you pay for and didn't think it was all that impressive.

The Boardwalk - If you want easy access to the beach stay on the main strip of casinos where there is a ramp to take you down to the beach all along the boardwalk. Definitely check out James Candy Store for saltwater taffy and fudge. One of the scenes from Empire Boardwalk television series was filmed right in front of it. Check out Landshark Bar & Grill located right in front of the beach with awesome views and great cocktails!

Please you this thread to post your experiences and favorite spots in Atlantic City!

  • Sounds like you had a wonderful time lips.  Will you go back again this summer?  Or will you wait and see?

I haven't been to Atlantic City in eons so I can't add to what you have written about all the casinos there.

  • Medtrans -  i want to go back this summer in the worst way! I have until August to take as may trips as i want. I have to see how i do in Tunica first. If i can at least break out even i will consider going back to Atlantic City one more time!

I hear you lips.  So many free trips are great.  But you gotta have the money in order to go.  If only we had money trees in our backyard life would be a breeze!

  • Showboat Casino in Atlantic City about to close............

The Boardwalk in Atlantic City won't quite be the same when Showboat Casino shuts down on August 31st. Located next to Revel Casino which by the way is also threatening to shutdown unless there is a buyer in bankruptcy court , is situated on the northern end of the Boardwalk.

Reasoning for closing is profits have steadily went down since 2006. Caesars Entertainment in a statement said it was a "difficult decision".

2,100 workers will be out of a job but the Caesars Group will aid in helping them find work at one of their other Casinos. .

  • Another Casino threatening to shut down is Trump Plaza Casino. That will make the 4th closure this year. This will seriously hurt Atlantic City who relies on Casinos for revenue.

After having recently visited the 2nd biggest gambling destination in the US i would certainly hate to see all the Casinos collapse like a deck of cards.

Although the closures are a concern there may be a silver lining with less competition allowing the remaining Casinos to thrive.

I found Atlantic City to be a beautiful city particularly the historic Boardwalk that overlooks the ocean.........breathtaking! But as a visitor of this great City i did see lots of room for improvement that made me wonder why isn't the Boardwalk geared to bring in more tourism.

As i anxiously walked along the Boardwalk visiting each Casino i could hardly wait to see what interesting shops and cafes that were along the way. I learned quickly that along this miles of stretch it became repetitious with the same identical shops that were repeated every block or so offering the same thing......T shirts, sweat shirts and souvenirs.

I had to ask myself why in the world isn't the Boardwalk revamped to bring in more tourism by offering a more diverse shopping experience and tourist attractions. Like Las Vegas that changed their entire landscape that is inviting for a whole family experience, Atlantic City and the Boardwalk needs to do the same.

The Boardwalk is a smorgasbord of endless possiblities! By offering tourists attractions and more entertainment outlets i think we could place Atlantic City back on one of the best gambling destinations on the map.

And now with the recent plan to add another Casino in a different city in New Jersey (pending approval) that is currently limited to Atlantic City, will that aid in boosting the Boardwalk or will it be the demise?

  • Looks like Revel Casino is going to stay open longer than the end of August. I received free rooms for September. I also got another Free trip - airfare and room for two in late September for Harrah's.

Did i take them up on the offer...........hell yeah..........Atlantic City here i come!!

  • Revel didn't get a buyer in bankruptcy court and will be closing September 10, 2014 after two years. This will result in the loss of 3100 jobs.

    The company said:

"We regret the impact this decision has on our Revel employees who have worked so hard to maximize the potential of the property. We thank them for their professionalism and dedication; however we are faced with several unavoidable circumstances.

“Despite the effort to improve the financial performance of Revel, it has not proven to be enough to put the property on a stable financial footing."

  • Trump Plaza Casino Atlantic City officially closed September 14th. Originally opening in 1984 known then as Harrah's at Trump Plaza was the 10th Casino to open at the time.

What is next.........Trump Taj Mahal Casino may face closure as soon as November this year.

  • Trump Taj Mahal is a dump! The machines were old not to mention the state of the casino. The paint was coming off the walls and patched with thick tape in spots. Ugh it was horrible! No wonder Donald Trump sued. I hear he is considering getting back into the casino business to save Atlantic City.

  • Being in NJ, I have been to all of the casinos there and that are no longer there... Revel, Trump Plaza (very dangerous part of boardwalk chock full of undesirables til they turned the blocks across the street into designer outlets, Hilton/AC Club (loved starting our day there of casino hopping and lounging at the beaches along the way, then let the family hang at Showboat while I got the car to pick them up at the end of the day (this was my opportunity to get an easy ride back from the cart pullers which is pricy from one end to the other but beat walking 2 miles. They really need a subway or traincar like Wildwood).

Bally's Wild West is just one I loved for the theme and the kids got a kick out of the animatronics. Very relaxing there and have a moderate amount of games. Comps and interior and exterior restaurants are decent. $5K Bingo the first Wednesday of the month is great too.Conveinently connected to...

Caesar's which is a favorite of mine in terms of gaming and cuisine.

Taj Mahal was nice in design. Farewell Taj.

Golden Nugget, Borgata, etc are nice but not easy to get to the shore.

  • As a naughty side note, contrary to the "Stronger than the Storm" commercials with Gov. Christie's family cameo, to those casinos, and even online Ucasino (which turned any points you had online over to Golden Nugget in case you are wondering and mailed your balances, even 5 cents to you) I guess they weren't quite stronger than it.  tongue

  • I love AC and really hope it comes back better than ever. Great idea canofham to have a train car  because that is an enormous walk from one end to the other. I never jumped on one of the cart pullers. I sorta feel bad because...well it seems like such hard labor for those poor guys  worn_out

  • Oh Yeah lets bring back the Boarkwalk!

At Bally's Casino Atlantic City a $3 million renovation is underway in Gold Rush-themed Wild Wild West section. It will feature a more inexpensive casino-bar complex and low-limit table games.

The new and improved Wild West will include a  parital-outdoor bar connecting to the Boardwalk.  Inside there will be five-dollar table games.

Any talk of Bally's closing should be tossed out of players minds because according to Kevin Ortzman, president of Caesars Entertainment’s Boardwalk casinos they are just "crazy rumors"!

Ummm i think it is time for me to go back for another visit..........after all i owe it to the LCB members to take pics and give a full report!!
  • Good News for Atlantic City Casinos

Atlantic City Casinos jump to almost 11% in revenue in September. After the recent casino closures 8 remain collecting $230 million in revenue for the month from Slots, table games, and online gambling, a $22 million hike from September 2014.

  • Revel Casino

After the closure of Revel Casino last year it was purchased by Glen Straub in April for the bargain price of $82 million, a huge drop from the $2.4 billion price tag. There are a few things still up in the air like when it will re-open and will still be part of Casino.

    Here a few possibilities:

    Indoor water park
School for IQ genius level students
    Equestrian facility
    Medical Spa

  • Golden Nugget Launches New Online Casino Software

Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City has partnered with leading software developer NYX  for a real money online Casino website.

"We have worked hard to become the trusted partner in the New Jersey market for digital gaming. Our OPS is one of the world's most flexible and open platforms in the gaming industry enabling our gaming operators the freedom to deliver best-of-breed experiences to their players. In today's competitive market, consumers of digital content demand unique and differentiated experiences and OPS is now the platform of choice for digital gaming in the US." said Matt Davey, CEO of NYX Gaming Group.

"This launch marks our first major project with NYX and both teams worked extremely well together. The AAA NYX team has gone beyond and above our high expectations across the board and we look forward to making the most of their world-class platform for New Jersey players to enjoy. With our brand new site and mobile applications, we are taking user experience to a whole new level. Three days after going live, we've already recorded new all-time highs in active players and revenues alike. We couldn't have hoped for a more enthusiastic welcome from our loyal online players, which is the best measurement of the success of this new partnership between NYX and Golden Nugget. We'd also like to thank Bally Technologies for their contribution to Golden Nugget early online success and for their professional commitment during the platform migration project." commented Thomas Winter, vice president online gaming of Golden Nugget.
  • To clarify - Golden Nugget actually launched their online casino two years ago (within a couple months of the first regulated sites in NJ)

They recently updated their lobby/layout, vip program and added some new games.

  • Thanks for your clarification. My title was misleading because the article is about the additional software added to platform.

  • Borgata Casino Revamping

If you like the nightlife you are going to love Borgata Casino in Atlantic City. A new project estimated at $14 million called Premier Nightclub will replace the existing mur.mur club.

It will be a great addition for tourist options, creating stiff competition for hot nightclubs in the area.

Slated to open in the Spring of 2016, the 18,000-square foot venue will occupy the MIXX space.
  • lol mur mur, mo wonder why it didn't attract much attention

If I had ever heard of an odd name, mur mur LMAO

  • Lmaoooooooo...........i know! In fact i had to double check the name when writing this cuz it sounds so off the wall!

  • The new owner of Atlantic City’s Revel Casino, Florida developer Glenn Straub, plans to open a rope course, which will occupy the previous valet entrance of the casino.

The rope course is due to open in June.

As for the casino, which closed in September 2014, Straub also plans to open restaurants and gambling once again but we don't know when to expect this plan to come to fruition. His licensing application has been turned in to the state but he has yet to select and operator.

  • "rope course"?

  • "rope course"?

LOL yeah, it's like a jungle gym obstacle course of ropes to climb. So much better than gambling eh?
  • Sounds like it is for kids. I never agreed kids and gambling mixed.

  • Trump Taj Mahal Casino Workers Strike

Picket lines formed in front of the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City during its third day of a strike on Sunday. Gamblers who dared to cross the picket line heard harsh comments from the union workers.

The Casino is no longer owned by Donald Trump who first opened the doors back in 1990. Billionaire Carl Icahn is the current owner and friend of Trump.

“Hundreds of dead mice were found in the kitchen of this building!” said Benjamin Albert, an organizing director with the union. “If you like mice and roaches, stay at the Taj Mahal! If you like casinos that care about their workers, stay anywhere else!”

The AC Health Department inspection from March to August 2015 reported 282 instances of mice or rodent feces throughout the Casino according to Albert.
  • OMG.  Mice and roaches are not for me!  Can you imagine sitting at a slot machine in an upscale beautiful casino and see a mouse run across the floor?  I think I would die.  That is as bad as going in a casino bathroom and it is so dirty you want to puke.  That is one thing casinos have a hard time keeping up with...bathroom cleaning.  I know that the patrons are slobs and some don't care, but casinos should put more effort in making sure the bathrooms are clean at all times!

  • Fired Caesars Security Guard Robs Casino

An Atlantic City security guard at Caesars Casino has plead guilty to armed robbery. The robbery happened on July 14th shortly after he was fired in 2014 in which he stole more than a hefty $180,000. The heist provoked a three-state manhunt according to the state Attorney General's Office.

According to records Plummer and accomplice, Aaron Evans, 26, of Atlantic City, walked into Caesars casino with masks and gloves on early in the morning around 6 a.m.

It was Plummer who held up a handgun at a security guard and casino employee that were loading cash boxes onto a trolley. Evans removed 3 of the cash boxes from the trolley and the two robbers fled the casino. After dropping one of the three cash boxes they walked out with $181,200.

Fleeing the scene in a car driven by Nathaniel Greenlee, 23, of Bear, Del. with Donavon Jackson, 22, of Wilmington, Del. in the passenger seat. They were all found and arrested within three days across three different states.

Greenlee and Jackson both pleaded guilty to second-degree theft in June facing up to seven years in state prison, while Evans faces pending charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy, the office said.

The 21-year-old Izyiah Plummer of Atlantic City, pleaded guilty Monday to charges including: first-degree armed robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses, Attorney General Christopher Porrino said.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 18 in which the court will recommend a 15-year prison sentence and nearly 13 years with no parole.

"This guilty plea ensures that Plummer won't be doing any other illegal inside jobs like this one for many years to come," Porrino said in a statement.

"Plummer demonstrated with this brazen armed robbery that he's a dangerous criminal who belongs behind bars."

  • Wow another greedy casino employee in that area.  First Pennsylvania and then New Jersey.  Makes me wonder why kind of nut jobs these casinos hire that get these kind of folks in there from the beginning.

Oh well, with now having a criminal record you can bet that these guys won't be allowed to step foot in any casino within the states for quite some time and I can see these guys will be added to a nationwide black book.

Good job on not only getting fired, but also good job on getting one heft record.

  • New Online Casino Goes Live in New Jersey

Sugar House Casino in Philadelphia have launches internet gaming in New Jersey in the state that has a steady progressive online gambling market.

Rush Street Gaming’s affiliate Rush Street Interactive will oversee the operation of the new site under Golden Nugget Atlantic City’s internet gaming permit. PlaySugarHouse.com launched live Thursday September 15th 2016.

Greg Carlin, Rush Street Gaming’s CEO said:

“We are excited to broaden the SugarHouse reach to new players in New Jersey and give players more choice about how they want to enjoy their casino gaming experience.”

The platform features over 200 games, including Super Monopoly Money, Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin, Quick Hit Platinum and is also mobile friendly.

  • TEN Casino (formerly Revel) Sues Casino Control Commission

Glenn Straub proprietor of TEN claims the regulator is too slow moving on one of his petitions and filed a suit in Atlantic City Court on Tuesday.
David Stefankiewicz the attorney, stated Straub’s petition to waive a casino license requirement for his company is in violation of the commission’s statutory requirements.

State gaming said he is required to apply for a gaming license to operate a casino on the property. Straub disagrees claiming since he is leasing the casino to a third-party vendor, he should not be required to apply for a license.

“Mr. Straub has spent a lot of time, effort and money in trying to make Atlantic City great again,” Stefankiewicz said in a statement. “He remains ready, willing and able to open the casino. The CCC is putting Straub and his company through unnecessary red tape and delay.”

  • I would imagine that they want all parties interested in gaming to be properly.  Vendors, Employees, propeties owners, and of the such last I knew were all part of the process.  I really think he just has something to hide if he doesn't want to go through the process really.

  • You may very well be right. According to a recent article - Regulators Find Revel Owner Must Obtain a Casino License, the update reported he has spent "$1 million a month in expenses while his legal battle with state regulators drags on". That just makes no sense at all. Who in their right mind would spend that amount of cash to simply prove a point?

  • Well if he hadn't been shut down already on the not needing a license bit.  I'd understand a round of battles with the regulator.

Yet last I knew anyone who has interest in the gaming business is required to be licensed to make sure there of good moral character and not going to try to scam anyone.

So that only leaves 1 point, he has something to hide otherwise all I can see this as fruitless battle to undermine the system to ensure fair gaming.

Oh well time will only tell if he actually wins his case or not.

  • Never liked the Revel, but have any of you guys tried their Online Platforms? I've found every single provider to be VERY streaky, like sometimes worse than the actual land casino games. However, when you win, make sure you take the foot off the gas or you might (if you're like me) get greedy and lose it all!

  • I have not tried their online platforms but now you have me curious and will have to try it. Ah yes, greed it's a gambler's downfall isn't it tongue

  • When?

  • Back in the '90's i visited my brother and sister who was in New York, USA and my brother was in Virginia and drove from Virginia to New York and when he got there we went to Atlantic City the day i arrived he wasnted me to experience Atlantic City once we arrived there i was amazed ato see so many casinos for the first time and when we went inside the first thing i did was when i saw the first slot machine i had to play it and it was a dollar slot machine and i had to break a $100 bill and i was already winning had a credit of $150 and my brother keeps on telling me that were still going to other casinos but i kept on playing so what he did was he pressed the cash out so the coins fell and i left him to collect it and just transferred to another slot which i won again until he pressed cash out again and i transferred to another slot and so on in the end i ended up winning $350 and just followed my brother to another casino.Atlantic City is so big and had a wonderful time but lost in the end.
