  • Sometimes i just don't practice what i preach. I am forever saying if a Slot is not paying it's not going to so move on! But there are moments i do just the opposite thinking ok i have just dumped $100 in this machine and it's bound to hit something only to lose a lot more in the end.

But then again sometimes it ends up paying off to linger on a machine and i am sooooo glad i decided to stay put!

What are the rules you set for yourself, do you continue to play or move on after spending a certain amount of money. Or maybe you bend your own rules at times like me?

  •           Lips, if that isn't the agony that we as gamblers deal with every  time we play....I think that's why we enjoy it so damn much!!  (Not losing a decent bank when we're up of course)  Because how many times do we keep telling ourselves  (Or say out loud for that matter)  "The big one is juuuust around the corner,  it's due, it's due,  random numbers my ass exclamation!  fork it over you infernal.....uh, I digress but you get the picture.  It's so funny you mention the rules because I think we all set rules for like how  many pulls before I go somewhere else?  I try to set mine at 7-10 and then  if I'm feeling superstitious I'll say to myself " Self,  it's okay, I'm 'gonna press a little more (like 20 more pulls)  see what happens.    What can
    I say,  I'm hardheaded.    laugh_out_loud

  • I tend to bounce around but then when I've still managed to lose I wonder if I should've stayed in the first place. laugh_out_loud Shoulda, woulda, coulda!

  • Well what can i say, i think we all have been in that situation many many many times, bongo about summed it up too in a funny way smiley laugh_out_loud

But yeah many times i do this, say a few more spins no more deposits, and what do i do i stay on it, hoping and hoping that something comes my way, but usually it doesnt, very very rarely it does,

1 other fact though for me is usually if i am going to win, i usually win something big in the first 10 mins of actually playing.

It sometimes feels like it was destined to happen like it was waiting for us to just log in, i mean sometimes i even won on first spin big wins sometimes, its strange,

But when a slot stinks, it usually stinks, and once u gone past the no return barrier, it would take a very very huge win to even get your money back, so its probably best we should just run away hahaha laugh_out_loud laugh_out_loud, but that is easier said than done tongue

  •             I notice that too, especially online, if you hit big right away or start off getting several bonuses in the first few minutes that's a very good omen.    If it seems to take forever just trying to get a decent hit, well what can I say,  I think that's the universe or the slot fairies telling you "Go to another machine, this dog ain't payin'"  At which point I usually  (and almost always wrongly) assume that it's 'gonna hit 'cause "There ain't no way in Hell this thing can suck this bad exclamation"  And then I usually press for about another 20 @#$%^&* losing pulls.  But,  every now and then I'll just leave and play an obscure game I almost never play and sometimes actually get lucky.  But to me, that's one of the obstacles --leaving a bad machine.  It's good to talk it out like this, maybe I'll actually come to my senses-----NAAAAHH exclamation!!!!

  • I find myself that if nothing hits in the first 5/6 spins I'm outta there. Yes I'm one of those that moves from slot to slot in minutes. Sometimes I think I don't even allow it to warm up b4 I move into the next. Maybe that's why I'm not a big fan of slots!  laugh_out_loud

  • @bongo - funny and soo true smiley

@fried-eggs - well that is my plan usually too when i usually gamble i have a max of 20 spins when i first open a slot, if i dont feel it is going to do anything from those 20 spins *usually* i leave it, and yes i mean *usually hahahaha laugh_out_loud, but like we said its very hard to leave sometimes even when its bad, but sometimes we do never know if the slot will pay or not even if we stay on them, very rarely they do if it started bad tongue

    Good Luck All

  •               We all have some valid rationalizations in my opinion for why we stay but unless I overlooked it,  we haven't mentioned  the dreaded "I was just playing there at that machine for half an hour,  someone else walked up,  when I got up, put some money in, pulled once and hit the @#$%^&*%$  jackpot".    This I'm sure is a subconscious fear we all have.  Tell me I'm wrong.  laugh_out_loud

  • Naaa your not wrong bongo tongue

not wrong at all, i think we all dread that happening to us smiley

  •                 This is a story showing our superstition ('kinda semi-related)  It's kind of funny actually,  in 1994  my wife and I were in Vegas and went to the
Golden Nugget in the old downtown section.  This woman had been playing on a bank of Double Diamond Slots I think it was; anyhow she nailed the jackpot-- $2,500  Very exciting, lights, bells, the whole nine yards.  They come and pay her and the it looked like the section she was in totally cleared out.    People figured she just won, nobody's  'gonna hit s***  for a while.    Me,  being young and stupid, and lucky sit down at the machine next to hers ----one pull,  bam!  $50.  And yes I did walk out after that.
My point is,  we also have a  double-reverse backwards kind of superstition where we think if a machine just hit big,  it WON'T  hit  for a while.    Just a thought.

  • yes, that is a fun story, but it is true, we gamblers do think that if a slot just hit, lets stay well clear of it,

But saying that it is not always the case, when i used to play @ 3dice casino i saw players get 2 or 3 big huge wins in about 10 mins cos of the win messages u get when players win it went into the global chat so people could see, but yes 100% true about the mindset though smiley

    Rated:

    0.5/ 5

  •               That kind of mindset is extremely hard to change, people are convinced of their superstition(s).
Supposedly with the "randomness" of the machines they say in theory you could hit back to back jackpots
    in consecutive pulls.  In theory....LMAO.

  • Technically as people say the slot can pay out at any time. Even if it seems to be paying badly because of the RNG nature of things.

I don't know though. Sometimes when a slot isn't paying it can continue not to pay through your session and eat up your balance completely.

1 thing I always do is try to judge things based on how it pays. If the slot is being quite tight but keeps giving 2 scatters, I might say to myself that I will give it 2 more chances and if after getting 2 scatters 2 more times it doesn't give me the 3rd scatter, I will go to something else.

If it's not giving many 2x scatters and is just being tight in general I will decide at 1 point to have 10 more spins and then move on to another slot.

  • Perhaps it's a bit stupid but if I really like a slot I could stay and play longer even if it isn't paying off.

That's exactly what I do in such situations; and that's what I find very annoying. smiley
  • Yeah. I think they must program it deliberate to do that so we put more in trying to get that 3rd scatter.

Immortal Romance seems to be the worst for that. For some reason it loves dropping 2 scatters very often but the 3rd never comes as often as it should.

  • i'm a nightmare for keeping playing on when a slot isnt paying as i always think that its gotta pay soon, now its a bit 50/50 on this on whether this works,

sometimes a slot has been playing dead for ages then suddenly bang i win big but then other times bye bye to my money i guess it being random this is how it goes.

With immortal romance a couple of times it has played dead right before giving a huge win so it is very tempting to play on.

I suppose if we all knew when a slot was going to pay we would all be rich  cheesy

  • I agree with Bongo - one of the most horrible things is deciding to leave only to have the next person sit down and win big.............argggg. I always try to walk completely away from the section so i don't have to see it. But sometimes once again i don't follow my rules and get caught up at a machine in the same row.

I hear you xbornluckyx and sometimes i have left an online machine when the Jackpot looks like it is ready to pop and find out a short time later a player hit it. Can't help but think that could of been me if i stayed a bit longer!

  •             That seems to happen a lot; I don't know, maybe it's me but I'll move one or two machines away and someone will play right where I was, not another soul in sight and Bam exclamation  Here comes a huge win or monster bonus round....Hate it when that happens and I'm sittin' right next to it.

  • hard enough playing online as u dont really know who won or what machine they played but to sit in a seat and get off a machine and then they win the jp that must make u wanna scream  sad

  • Hahaha - Oh my i have had this happen more times than i care to remember. It's like you want to get up and say "ya know what that's my money i dumped in the machine that let you win so i deserve it NOT you!

Of course logic kicks in and we all have to grin and bear it but i must admit its very difficult to smile and congratulate them knowing it should of been me!

I do the same thing. Might be wishful thinking. If i lose my shirt and do not hit the bonus round i keep playing thinking it has to hit soon.

  • I tend to keep playing a machine until it hits something more than I have in it.  If I hit a bonus round I usually leave it shortly after.

I will never play a machine after i know it has hit big.............but there was a couple of occasions i saw it happen. Once at Harrah's Casino Joliet a guy hit the Royal Flush on Video Poker machine. After the Slot host unlocked his machine and while he was waiting to get hand paid he continued to play. On the very next hand, yes the very next hand he hit the Royal again! This was a $1 machine so each win was $4,000. I never saw anything like that in my life!

I wish I had the sense to walk away at a certain point after a win of any kind. I somehow justify staying and playing until there's nothing left then think ugh that machine was tight. laugh_out_loud So dumb sometimes.

I pretty much do the same thing. Once it hits big i will leave shortly after but..............usually it's if i hit the Royal Flush. If i have a series of accumulated win say 2,000 credits or more i have been known to give it all back thinking the machine is going to pop something really big!

I've gotten a lot better and if i reach 4,000 credits ($1,000) that is my exit point. Now if i could only leave the casino i would be in excellent shape.

  • hard enough playing online as u dont really know who won or what machine they played but to sit in a seat and get off a machine and then they win the jp that must make u wanna scream  sad

That's true and a whole different ball game online because we go in blind not knowing what kind of wins have went on. Only thing we are aware of is if a Random Jackpot or Progressive has just won.

  • Now if i could only leave the casino i would be in excellent shape.

That is the trick isn't it laugh_out_loud
  • I also tend to keep playing usually i think i change this slot when i get free spins or something like that and it usually ends up badly cheesy

  •             It's frustrating,  not being able to bend a machine to our will,  we keep thinking it'll hit, anytime, it's due.    Somehow, I don't think the machine sees it the same way...
