  • Hi  LCB'ers,

Last week i was in Traverse City, Michigan and was able to naturally sneak in a couple of Casinos while i was there. A blog about my experience is coming soon!

But i have to share what happened when i was at Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel.

I was playing Video Poker two seats over from a gentleman who appeared to be in his 60's. One of the staff at the Casino came up and asked him if he came with his wife and is she blonde?

Completely preoccupied by playing Keno he says "No". The employee said that this wife was looking for her husband and described him as wearing a baseball cap with a pin on it that flashed Happy Birthday.

The player turns briefly looks at the guy and says "no that's not me" and turns back to his game. Perplexed the worker says are you sure you don't have a wife who is blonde wearing a tan coat? Again the man says "No" with the most innocent yet a sense of hiding something look on his face.

The worker shrugs his shoulders and says i thought for sure you were the husband because you are the only one on the Casino floor wearing a happy birthday pin on his hat and walks away.

Now i am not easily distracted when i am trying to chase down four of a kind or the Royal Flush but it got me thinking if my assumption was right this man was trying to avoid his wife!

Maybe about 10 minutes later who comes walking up behind him but a blonde woman wearing a tan coat! She leans down to his left ear and asks if he is winning and he replies "no"! She quickly responds it is time to go now!

Omg it was the cutest thing i have ever seen. This guy with a straight up serious expression just minutes ago said it wasn't his wife and here she comes waltzing up moments later.

He knew darn well if he confessed to that worker it was his wife it meant he would have to leave! He was absolutely adorable and i wanted to say so bad hey i will drive him home let the poor guy stay. After all it was his birthday!

Have you ever gone with someone and hoped you were well enough hidden that you couldn't be found?

  • Wow that's hilarious. Poor guy could have at least won on his birthday. Maybe if he took off the flashing pin he could've got away with it.

Anyway, I know you wish I couldn't find you in the casino but you can't hide from me laugh_out_loud

  • Thanks for sharing. That was hilarious.  laugh_out_loud

  • Sometimes husband and wife teams at the casino can be pretty entertaining.......

I was at the Rivers Casino last week and there was a woman who came and sat next to me. Talk about the Midas touch she couldn't lose if she tried! She hit a Jackpot for over $2,000, cashed out a voucher for $1,000 and about 20 minutes later cashed out $500 followed by another $1,000 voucher!

Here is where it gets interesting - her husband comes over and asks how she is doing. She replies "ahhh i'm not doing much on this machine"! Omg i couldn't believe the Academy Award performance she put on for him! Then a bit later one of her friends stops to say hi and also asks her how she is doing and she again says "not doing too well, machine is paying a little bit here and there".

Seriously why pretend you are losing?

  • I went with my brother to an Indian Casino on a reservation between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. We were on our way to the Sandia casino outside Albuquerque. I thought this small old west-ish saloon like casino would be a neat stop. He was freaking out about stopping in the desert at the casino in the middle of no where and it had some intimidating looking patrons and security. Well we were playing slots, and he was losing so much it was sad. He was pounding at the machine and cursing saying that is not my bet. I informed him that he was hitting max bet and that he needed to choose smaller and hit SPIN. Well he got drunk, unbeknownst to me as I went to try and hide from his original antics. I'm off enjoying some modest success, talking to some locals, and I hear commotion in the distance but ignore it. 2 armed security guards and tribal police come up to me and say they need to talk to me. I'm thinking oh crap what did he do and am I going down by association. Well here he started getting really aggressive because he almost blew his money before our destination we were headed to and was drunk and trying to put coins in the club card reader. When they told me they politely tried to calm him down he went on an anti Indian "they are robbing us behind the cactus tirade and wanting to go Geronimo". The slurs mortified me, being Arab myself and loving of all. They said I can take him, or they will lock him up and he can share his thoughts for 2 weeks til the village tribunal is held. I almost thought to say I don't know him and you can have him and let him find his way back, but I gave him a glare that even in his angry drunken state he could interpret and said "CAR ....NOW!". He quickly shut up the rest of the trip, besides having to stop in the middle of no where here and there to relieve himself, and I was so embarrassed and felt bad for what they were subjected to from his mouth and felt bad at what he would have went through in their custody. I pictured him in court beaten by some inmates from the tribe that heard of his thoughts on them. He wouldn't have made it and when we got to Sandia Casino, I got separate rooms far apart and told him to meet me out front at  11am in 2 days and don't bother me til them.

  • Okie doke.........

So i am doing what i love best; playing Video Poker at Rivers Casino when up walks up a guy who sits next to me. He slips in $100 in the machine and my wonderful world of playing comes tumbling down with his ANNOYING habit!

Every time he hits the deal or draw button he throws me in total distraction! He throws his hand up high in the air and in grease lightening fashion pounds the button as hard as he can with his index finger and pulls his hand back like he just pulled it from a raging fire!

I am sure my facial reaction was priceless and as entertained as i can get by others i am probably a real conversation piece with my reactions!

When he hit the button it made a LOUD pounding sound, coupled with his arm and hand movement i was dying to take a video to share it with everyone. Unfortunately i couldn't figure out how to do it discreetly.

So i am in a state of utter amazement at this guy and trying to decide if i should comment on it to him. I mean any guy that plays this whacky you have to have a bit of concern of this mental stability. Maybe he might use his spring hand action and whelp me across the head.........but being the gambling gal i am i decided to mention it to him.

In a more intrigued rather than annoyed way i said to him."that's quite playing style you have"!  He chuckled and then i knew i was safe to push it a bit further. I told him i have never ever seen anyone whack the button like that and draw their hand back like they just swatted at an enormous spider.

Taking pride in his style he said he thinks he developed this habit from playing the piano. I am thinking  oh brother from the piano...........really? Wow he is goofier than i thought. He went on to say with even more pride that he often breaks the button on machines with heavy hitting finger.

I wanted to say - you should have to pay for every button you break, but i could only go so far in taking this gamble!

  • No I totally understand Lips, I went to Mystic Lake over the last week for a family Christmas and to play a little bit.

I can't understand those people who beat on the buttons or smack the machines screen.  Like it's going to cause the machine to really play out better.

Plus then that playing style makes the buttons less easier to push and makes it difficult for someone like me to play them.

Like for example a guy who was playing Aztec Temple next me this week.  Kept cussing the machine out, smacking the buttons, and flipping the machine off every chance he could get.  Then to top it off, he punches the machines screen when he lost completely.  I wanted to go, really dude?  Is that all necessary?

Anywho, yeah I was going to post something along those lines today myself, but you beat me to it.  Oh well.

Just like another thing that annoys me because I'm not a smoker are those who decide to lite up every second there on the machine.  It's like if gambling makes you that nervous, maybe you should find another hobby.

  • I just had to share... I went out to Laughlin on New Year's Day, and had my kids with me. We were walking through the casino, and my 9 year old says, "mom, all these people just keep staring at the computer screen! How creepy!" And the look on her face was something else. We walked through another casino (we were walking down the river walk) and she pops off with "omg, it looks like you at home when you play those casino games! Is this the same thing!?" oops. Then she says, "I bet they're losing a lot of money, look at them at the ATM Machine." Lol.

So I got a free room for the night and I took her down to Starbucks in the morning. She observes this older lady getting up from a machine saying "fu** this game" as she moves to the other side of the machine. Lol
