Cote D Ivoire

The Cote d'Ivoire is a yellow-level online gambling jurisdiction since several, but not all, types of online gambling are regulated.

The Cote d'Ivoire is located on the southern coast of north-west Africa. It borders Liberia and Guinea to the west with Mali and Burkina Faso to the north and Ghana to the east. It also borders the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Guinea to the south.

The Cote d'Ivoire, also known as the Ivory Coast, has an online gambling portal called Loterie National de Cote d'Ivoire, and it's known as LONACI for short. This originally started out as a national lottery. However, in 2012 the software provider LVS made a deal with the LONACI to provide sports betting and horse racing capabilities through this online portal. These betting options can be accessed through a number of betting shops, through their website or through their mobile app.

While the LONACI is a great organization with a strong reputation, they are very notably missing the opportunities for players to enjoy online poker, online casino games and online bingo. Even with that being the case, they still have an excellent setup with a lot of potential for the future.

There is no standardized licensing process for online gambling businesses in the Cote d'Ivoire because everything is set up through their national lottery portal. The deal that LVS made with LONACI is the only deal of its kind, so there is no process in place by the government to show how to deal with these situations. However, chances are that they could add other forms of online gambling in the future if companies stand up to do something about it, but it would almost certainly have to go through the LONACI online and mobile portal. It's not likely that a new licensing process comes out at any point in the near future here.

Player Protections

Players are protected by the LONACI in the regulated lottery, horse racing and sports betting arenas. They have a really good reputation for taking player complaints seriously and doing the right thing when action needs to be taken. With that having been said, there's no clear indication about the legality of other forms of online gambling, but there certainly is no player protection of any kind available for gambling online through other sites besides the LONACI.

Players are advised to stick to online casinos, bingo sites and poker sites that have outstanding reputations to mitigate any risk involved due to the lack of government protection in this country.
