Djibouti is a white-level online gambling jurisdiction because it's completely unclear what the status is of online gambling in this country.

Djibouti is located on the eastern coast of Africa with Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west, south and south-west, and Somalia to the southeast. The Red Sea is to the north, and the Gulf of Aden is to the east. The coast of Yemen is located about 15 miles to the north-east across the Gulf of Aden.

The situation with online gambling in Djibouti is very interesting in that they have a tremendous amount of potential for the industry to explode, but nothing has been done about it so far. There are multiple land-based casinos that do well in this country, but it's unclear if online gambling is permitted. What is clear, however, is that there is an apparent lack of interest in pushing for any type of regulation of the online gambling industry in Djibouti, so the chances aren't really great of the situation changing in this country anytime soon.

No licensing process exists for online gambling sites in Djibouti, though they do have licensing for land-based casinos. What's interesting is that it wouldn't necessarily take much for them to expand this to Internet-based gambling since they would get a lot of interest for their lax tax laws and other benefits. This country wants to build a strong reputation for bringing in foreign business, and this could be another way to try to cultivate that. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they're very interested in doing that at this point, and it's unclear if they will want to do it at any point in the near future.

Player Protections

Since there is no licensing process, there are no player protections of any kind for online gambling in Djibouti. If you're playing with foreign sites, you need to be sure to play with sites that are as reputable as possible since you won't necessarily have any resource if something shady happens with your experience or your funds.

Because of their strong land-based licensing process and their decent reputation of protecting their players in land-based games, it would follow that they would take this position if they were to ever license online gambling. Along these lines, they're wanting to keep a strong reputation for legitimacy, and this would help to bring in foreign operators and software companies. This is why we believe there is a ton of potential just waiting in Djibouti (combined with their favorable tax laws), and it's why we believe that if the online gambling industry is given a chance in this country that it will flourish.
