Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a blue-level online gambling jurisdiction because no one really cares about the industry there yet.

Sri Lanka is an island country off of the southern coast of India. It borders the Laccadive Sea to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the north-east and the Indian Ocean to the south. Some regions of the country are less than 20 or 30 miles from India.

In some countries, there still aren't high levels of Internet penetration. Sri Lanka is one of those countries. A lot of people simply do not have access to the Internet here. Along those lines, political leaders haven't really worked towards regulating the online gambling industry in any way, shape or form.

Several forms of legal gambling are available in the land-based arena, so that leads us to speculate that they could eventually regulate the industry once it becomes a more viable option. What's interesting is that there are no laws about online gambling at all, and plenty of people who do have access to the Internet use it to gamble.

There is no licensing process in Sri Lanka, but if you look at what their gambling environment is like right now, then you can see that there is room for it in the future. Their government tends to take a permissive stance towards the types of gambling they do have available, and there have been no moves whatsoever to try to limit the industry for players. This is a good sign for the future, and it shows us that once they get a wider level of Internet access that there's a good chance that they'll also be permissive about gambling on the Internet in larger numbers.

Player Protections

Since there is no licensing process, and since there's not really that large of a percentage of the population on the Internet in the first place, it's easy to understand why there are no player protections. If you're an individual playing from Sri Lanka, then you need to minimize your risk by playing with a reputable operator with a long history of paying out fairly to players. Without this, you could easily run into situations where a site doesn't want to pay you, and there wouldn't really be anything you could do about it since there are no protections in place for players.
