Thailand is a country in Southern Asia. It borders Myanmar to the north and west, Laos to the north and east, Cambodia to the south-east, the Andaman Sea to the west and the Gulf of Thailand to the south.
Online gambling is a very loaded and complicated subject in Thailand. To start with, almost every form of gambling is illegal in this country. However, the laws do not specifically mention play on the Internet, so the laws can be interpreted either way. When you take into account the fact that several surveys have found that well over 50 percent of the popular gambles regularly, it's easy to see that these laws simply aren't working.
Many people have moved to Thailand for the express purpose of gambling online, especially Internet poker players who are no longer welcome to play in their own country (especially from the United States). The police don't really seem to care, and there's virtually no enforcement of any anti-online gambling law, so the whole situation is unclear and in a bit of a legal gray area.
Thailand's ban on all forms of land-based gambling pretty much means we won't see a licensing process for online gambling spring up at any point in the near future. However, if logic and reason were to take control for a short while, they could have a booming online gambling industry set up within months or a couple of years because of the huge demand to gamble that's already there and the simple fact that more than half of adults in the country gamble, which is an astonishing amount.
Since so many people gamble from this country, there are plenty of sites out there already that have Thailand-specific currency and language options. To take on licensing fees and taxes from these companies for offering the games they're already offering to their players would make a lot of sense.
Because of the legal gray area, and because there's no official licensing for operators in Thailand, there are no player protections. It's up to the players to take preventative measures for themselves like only playing with reputable sites. If you play with sites that have a good reputation and a long history of quick and steady withdrawals, then you should have no problem.
